The Bookhouse is an enchanted space, a space that doesn’t enclose, but enhances the experience of reading. The idea was born in a simple story written for a three year-old, and became reality in the hands of her mother. Now the Bookhouse can belong to any child who wants a special place to spend time with books.
Not long ago, a three-year-old girl called Nicole read “The Hidden Staircase”and used it to explore the Pinacoteca with her mother, who wrote to the Director , James M. Bradburne. Inspired by the letter, he wrote a new story, “Nicole & the Book House”. Inspired by his story, Nicole’s mother published a limited edition and built a real wooden house for Nicole and her beloved books.
With the publication of Nicole and the Bookhouse in November 2021, the President of CIRCI, James Bradburne, launched an appeal to designers, architects and manufacturers to create a low-cost ‘bookhouse’ that could be used as a gift to young readers.
The bookhouse creates a context for reading and serves to encourage young readers to enter the world of reading with pleasure.
The Book House project is non-profit, any revenue from its sale will be re-invested in one of CIRCI’s initiatives.
The cost of the Book House is 200 euros (+VAT) excluding shipping.
How a museum visit can change our lives
Today, museums and their directors are under constant pressure from politicians and journalists to find the measure of their success in numbers; the primary function of the museum, they say, is to attract tourist revenue.
Many of us, who have dedicated our lives to museums, believe instead that the measure of a museum’s success is something else: the change it makes in the lives of its visitors.
